Former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion cancels North East show after surgery
INJURY ... Sir Andrew Motion.
Former Poet Laureate Sir Andrew Motion has been forced to cancel a visit to South Tyneside this evening after undergoing surgery.
Sir Andrew was due to share his latest work at The Customs House in Mill Dam, South Shields, tonight
But the event has been called off after Sir Andrew ruptured ligaments in his knee while climbing stairs.
The Customs House is hoping to rearrange the poet’s show for later in the year.
Sir Andrew’s new anthology, aptly titled Customs House, contains poetry inspired by the First and Second World Wars and his marriage.
He was also set to read poems, talk about his career and answer questions from the audience.
A statement from the Customs House said: “We regret that due to the indisposition of Andrew Motion, the performance of his new book of poetry has been cancelled.
“We are working to find a new date in the autumn.
“Ticket-holders are asked to contact the box office for information and a refund.
“The theatre would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
A competition held by the Gazette to win a pair of tickets for the evening will now be rearranged for the new show’s date.
Ticket holders can contact the box office on 454 1234.
