CELEBRATIONS were in store for a former businesswoman as she reached her 100th birthday.
Clara Hunter was a familiar face to shoppers when she ran her own grocery shop in The Barnes, Sunderland.
Her birthday was marked at Church View Care Home, Murton, yesterday with performance by a singer.
Partygoers included cousin Mary Lawson, 85, who was her bridesmaid when Clara married the late Tom, clerk of Easington Parish Council, in 1935 in the village church.
She said: “It’s such an achievement.
“She’s a marvellous person and was always baking and making jam.
“You never left her house empty handed.”
Clara was born in Cookson Terrace, Murton, to Mary and William Blackmoore and is mother to Alan, 48, and gran to Amanda Till, 48, and Nicholas Worthington, 42.
Nicholas, dad to Aaron, 16, and Rachel, 12, and partner Debra Bryan were also among those who joined in the celebrations.
