IT’S the wedding everyone has been talking about.
A handsome young man preparing to wed his princess in a fairytale ceremony in front of delighted friends and family.
Forget Prince William and Kate Middleton, Sunderland staged its own Royal Wedding – on a smaller scale in all respects.
Nursery children from Sunderland High School organised a mock marriage and reception in celebration of Kate and Will’s big day later this month.
In the role of Kate was four-year-old Mollie Foster, while James Dixon, aged three, took on the role of Prince William.
The happy couple were joined by their bridesmaids, groomsmen, friends and family as they “tied the knot” at St John’s Church in Ashbrooke before returning to the nursery for a slap-up reception.
Rhiannon Keating, nursery manager at the school, said: “With the Royal wedding approaching the children have been learning all about weddings, from the meaning of them through to their planning and organisation.
“We just thought it would be lovely to stage a ceremony of our own so the children could act out all the things they had learned. They made all the invitations themselves to send to mums and dads and helped make the decorations as well.”
The event aimed to be as realistic as possible, from wedding outfits, through to a bridal car, photographs and even a wedding cake made by one of the parents.
