FRIENDS and family of a fallen Sunderland soldier enjoyed a day of football and fun in his memory.
The annual match sees former colleagues of Sgt John Amer take on other local teams to raise money for The ABF, The Soldiers Charity, which helps current and former armed forces members.
Held at Croft Park, the home of Blyth Spartans, the afternoon match between Sunderland Royal Sun Alliance and Liverpool Royal SunAlliance was played in honour of Sgt Amer.
As well as the football, those who attended enjoyed paintball, food stalls and a climbing wall, raising more than £1,100.
Dad-of-one Sgt Amer, from Ryhope, was killed by explosives in Afghanistan in 2009 at the age of 30.
Last December, Southmoor Academy renamed its library the Sgt John Amer Reading Suite in memory of its former pupil.
