TOUCHING tributes have been left to a Sunderland schoolboy who died after being hit by a bus.

The youngster, named locally as 12-year-old Matthew Hayes, died on Friday shortly before 4pm after the collision with a Go North East Simplicity bus in Ryhope Street South.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family and friends have now left floral tributes at the spot where Matthew, who was a pupil at Venerable Bede CofE school, was killed.

A message next to a bunch of flowers from the boy’s parents reads: “Love you always. Miss you. Mum and dad.”

Another note, from Matthew’s grandparents, says: “Matthew, love you forever, Nan and Grandad.”
