A GREAT-great grandmother celebrated her 100th birthday with a party for five generations of family.
Former nurse Margaret Laine marked the milestone at Valley View Care Home, in Penshaw.
Margaret was born and lived in Angelsey, North Wales, when she was young with her sister and two brothers.
She then lived in London during the Second World War where she met her husband Bobby, who died two years ago.
The pair later moved up to the North East and settled in Penshaw where they raised their children Jill, Christine and David.
Margaret now has five grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
Sharon Field, activities coordinator at the care home, said the day was a great success for Margaret and the family.
Sharon, 40, from Houghton said: “We had a cake and a bit of a party and her family came along to help celebrate.
“Margaret is marvellous, she gets out and about and she loves bingo.
“You wouldn’t believe she is 100.”
