FIRE chiefs have scooped a top award in one of the largest rescue competitions in the world.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service Urban Search and Rescue Team joined more than 600 competitors to take part in the United Kingdom Rescue Challenge.
The range of challenges this year included rope rescue, casualty management/trauma care, extrication/vehicle rescue and water rescue.
Assistant chief fire officer Chris Lowther said: “I would like to congratulate all of the firefighters who took part in the competition, and I would like to thank Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service for hosting this fantastic event. This result is, without doubt, due to their professionalism, dedication and commitment.”
