FILMING begins today on the second series of The Paradise – the popular BBC1 period drama, filmed on the Lambton Estate.
The first series of multimillion-pound costume drama was filmed at the estate, near Burnmoor, last summer.
With stars such as Sarah Lancashire, Emun Elliott and Joanna Vanderham, The Paradise proved such a hit with viewers in the autumn that it was immediately recommissioned.
The Tuesday night screenings bagged average audiences of six million viewers.
The 1875 story, which centres around a glamorous new department store, is based on Emile Zola’s French classic Bonheur des Dames.
Fans can expect more love twists and murky mysteries that made the first series such a big hit.
It means Lambton Estate, where an authentic looking Victorian street was recreated, again gets a starring role.
