ONE of Sunderland’s most well-respected bands is in line for a prestigious music gong.
Field Music has been shortlisted in the album of the year category in this year’s Mercury Music Prize awards.
Fourth album Plumb, which was recorded in the band’s studio on the banks of the River Wear, stands alongside albums from Plan B and The Maccabees in the category.
The shortlist was announced by fellow Mackem Lauren Laverne in London last night.
Speaking on Twitter, the band, led by brothers David and Peter Brewis, said: “I still pretty much can’t believe it.
“A really, really nice surprise to be included on the shortlist.”
The winners of this year’s Mercury Music Prize will be revealed on November 1.
