FATHER and son fund-raisers got the chop to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.
Michael Roper and his son, also called Michael, let their facial hair grow wild for a number of months before having the lot shaved off.
The pair wanted to fund-raise for military organisation Blesma, which helps those who’ve been seriously injured in the line of duty, and also Cancer Research UK.
The shave was carried out at Johns Barbers, in Norfolk Street, Sunderland city centre, with £550 raised.
The cash will be split between both causes.
Michael Senior, 63, of Pennywell, who served in the Royal Engineers before becoming a caretaker at the former Havelock Primary School, in Sunderland, said: “Both myself and Michael are most appreciative to all who supported and sponsored us.
“We’ve got to say thanks to everyone who sponsored us and the lads at the barbers, Steve and Mick, who shaved our beards for free.”
Michael Jnr, 32, also lost the hair on his head as part of the fun.
Those who donated to the cause included friends and family of the lads, as well as Michael Jnr’s colleagues at Barclays Bank.
“I’m relieved the beard’s gone now as it was getting itchy,” added Michael Snr.
“Everybody says I look 10 years younger and the threat of divorce has now gone as well!”
