AN elderly pedestrian who died in a collision with a car while crossing a road has been named.
Norman Hodgson, 79, sustained serious head injuries in the accident, involving a Toyota Aygo car in Waldridge Road, Chester-le-Street, on Tuesday.
Mr Hodgson, of nearby Gibbs Court, was taken by ambulance to Durham’s University Hospital of North Durham, then transferred to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he died on Wednesday afternoon.
The car driver, a 43-year-old man from the Chester-le-Street area, was uninjured.
Witnesses to the accident, which happened at about 5.45pm on Tuesday, are asked to contact Pc Mick Baxter of Durham Police’s collision investigation unit, on 375 2159.
