A FASHION student is heading Statesside after landing a top job with a world renowned fashion label.
Sunderland University graduate Sophia Ramsey impressed talent spotters from the U.S. with her graduation project, securing her a job working for Abercrombie & Fitch.
The 22-year-old will head to the company’s headquarters in Ohio, early next year to design womenswear for the label.
Sophia, from Gateshead, set up a stall at Graduate Fashion Week in London in June, to display her collection of menswear designs, which were created as part of her final-year project.
They were spotted by a recruitment agent from Abercrombie & Fitch who suggested she apply for a job with the company.
It led to her being flown to the U.S. where she pitted her design skills against 15 candidates from around the world and four days after she returned to the UK, Sophia was offered one of four jobs available at the firm.
Sophia said: “I feel incredibly fortunate to have been offered such a massive opportunity with a company like Abercrombie & Fitch. I just can’t wait to get started.
“Ironically, I’ll be designing for the company’s womenswear collection, yet it was my design’s for men’s clothing which caught the attention of the recruitment agent.”
