SUNDERLAND fan Liam Lumley got a welcome surprise from two of his soccer heroes as he visited a city centre bank.
Black Cats captain Lee Cattermole and fellow midfielder and Egpytian international Ahmed Elmohamady dropped in at Britannia as the building society launched a new account for supporters which is directly linked to the club.
The bank accounts will give Black Cats supporters a £40 voucher to redeem against match tickets or to spend in SAFC club stores.
The club will also receive a bonus payment for every account opened.
Britannia is already the club’s official savings partners, providing supporters with different savings accounts and mortgages.
The new current account is one of the few in the country linked with a football club.
Currently more than 4,000 Black Cats fans hold accounts and mortgages with the bank, with the partnership benefiting the club to the tune of more than £840,000.
Britannia branch manager, Claire Allinson, said: “It was great to meet the players and supporters today, and to officially launch our new Sunderland AFC current accounts.
“We have many customers who are also Sunderland fans, who we hope will take advantage of our new bank accounts.
“Not only do they benefit their team, but they reward each customer with a £40 voucher.”
Every customer who opens a current account before Friday, April 15, will be entered into a prize draw to win a day-trip to the SAFC Academy in Whitburn.
The winner will have the chance to watch a first team training session and four tickets to a game of their choice.
SAFC’s marketing and commercial director Lesley Callaghan said: “We’ve been working with Britannia for 11 years and our partnership has gone from strength to strength.
“The addition of current accounts to the existing range of financial products is an exciting step to widening the services both the club and Britannia can offer to supporters.
