Organised by Groundwork North East, in association with Marks and Spencer and Sunderland City Council, the event provided something for everyone.

Youngsters threw themselves into giant outdoor games, as well as crafts and face painting for a day of fun.

The event was one of a number of summer fun days being organised by Groundwork North East.

Another will be held today between 1pm and 3pm, at University Park, which is behind Murray Library in Sunderland’s Chester Road.

There will be a number of sports day activities, environmental arts and crafts, and traditional outdoor games, with a carnival twist, linking into the University of Sunderland’s own Freshers’ Carnival.

The University Park which covers the land around the Murray Library and the University Metro station, has been recently taken over by the university as part of its City Campus developments.

Groundwork North East has worked with the university in the past on various projects and has carried out some development work on the University Park, helping to create a vibrant and friendly space for all.

All activities will be free for everyone to join in with and everyone is welcome to go along.
