One male and two female occupants of a semi-detached cottage in Silksworth Lane, Sunderland, fled the property, along with two pet cats and a dog.

One crew from Sunderland Central and two crews from North Moor station were called to the cottage at 1.27pm today.

A ground floor bedroom was damaged by fire and smoke and the rest of the property was damaged by smoke.

The occupants had left the cottage before fire crews got there.
