WEIGHT loss is a family affair for the super-slimming Davisons – after wedding bells inspired them to shed a whopping 18 stone.
Parents Angela and Malcolm joined daughters Lesley and Louise is a bid to slim down in time for Lesley’s wedding to Gavin Whyte.
The pounds soon began to fall off for the Penshaw family after they signed up to Slimming World classes – with bride Lesley dropping from a size 18 to get a size eight wedding dress.
Malcolm, 57, of Penshaw, who lost 4st 9.5lb, said: “People who know our family hardly recognise us.
“Healthy eating has become so addictive. I used to feel tired all the time and never wanted to leave the sofa, now I regularly go on five-mile walks.
Angela, 51, who lost just over four stone, said: “We’re much fitter now. I love the Slimming World plan –there’s so much variety. You really don’t feel like you’re on a diet and it clearly works.”
Lesley, a 30-year-old admin assistant who has two children, Callum, 16 months and Alfie, three, lost just over four stone.
Her sister Louise, 28, who has a two-year-old son, Connor, lost 4st 7.5lb. They joined classes at Penshaw Catholic Club ahead of Lesley’s big day at St Barnabas Church, Burnmoor, in May, where Louise was bridesmaid.
Angela dragged Malcolm along after their daughters’ success and he soon became hooked, despite his initial reluctance to attend.
Julie Mulvaney, 39, who runs the Penshaw and Shiney Row Slimming World groups, is delighted with the family’s progress.
She said: “Lesley started as a size 18 and she had ordered a size 16 wedding dress to slim into, but as the weeks went by she kept having to get it taken in and taken in until on her wedding day the dress was a size eight.
“My proudest moment was when I saw Lesley in her dress. I just burst out crying. She had this tiny waist and her hair and make-up were all done beautifully.”
Julie’s Penshaw group is held every Wednesday at 3.45pm and 5.30pm at Penshaw Catholic Club or every Thursday at 9.15am and 11am.
