A PLAY park will be revamped thanks to a company’s cash injection.
Families in Washington’s Springwell Village are celebrating the news that the SITA Trust is handing over £60,000 to refurbish the Seldom Seen play area.
Work is about to begin at the playground in the village centre, after Sunderland City Council worked with residents to submit an application to the Trust.
The project will spruce up the play area and also introduce new fun equipment to encourage children and young people to be more active. Sunderland City Council’s deputy leader and ward councillor, Harry Trueman, said: “Springwell Village is a flourishing community, and it is great to see that, despite the distractions of games consoles and television, the play area is still very well used.
“At a time of rising concerns over the levels of activity in children, this is a great example of young people getting out and enjoying themselves.”
He added: ”The current facilities are well used and, as such, will benefit from new and updated play equipment.”
