A ROAD was blocked after part of a tree came crashing down on a busy street.
A branch from large sycamore fell across Tunstall Road on Monday afternoon.
Police closed the road for a short time while the foliage was removed by workers from Sunderland City Council.
It is believed the tree, which is growing in private parkland in Woodside, is covered by a Tree Protection Order (TPOs).
TPOs mean councils have a legal duty to protect trees and work cannot be carried out on them without consent.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “At 3.40pm on Monday afternoon, police received a report a tree had fallen and was blocking the road.
“The council attended and removed the tree.”
