Metro travellers have faced heavy delays this evening, after a train failed near Heworth

Nexus says there are no trains running in either direction between Heworth and Hebburn on the South Shields line and Brockley Whinns on the Sunderland route.

A replacement bus service, the number 900, is in operation calling at or near all stations.

Passengers took to social media to express their displeasure. Viv Harding wrote: “I was on the train that broke down. It was horrific. It was roasting and they left us on there for 1.5 hrs!!

“They reversed it back into Pelaw. My usual 45min journey home took me 3 hours!!!”

And Linzi Brown said: “Absolute joke the Metro service! Same sort of problem has been going on for years yet nothing’s done about it still!

“I got on the metro at 17.10 and didn’t get home until 20.25!!

“That was due to a friend picking me up!”

Nexus says anyone wanting a refund on their ticket should e-mail contactus@twmetro.co.uk
