A Facebook page has been set up in support of an appeal for former Sunderland star Adam Johnson to have one of his convictions for underage sex offences overturned.

The page, entitled Adam Johnson's Appeal Fight, has already been 'liked' by more than 1,840.

A picture of Johnson with his baby daughter Ayla features at the top of the page as does another post saying: "Father & Daughter. True best friends for life."

Various comments have been posted in support of Johnson, as well as some criticising his victim.

The ex-England international, 28, was found guilty by a jury at Bradford Crown Court last week of one count of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.

He was found not guilty by the same jury of a similar charge.

At the beginning of his trial the former Middlesbrough and Manchester City winger also pleaded guilty to grooming the schoolgirl and kissing

her.

He is expected to be handed a significant prison sentence when he returns to the court later this month.

Johnson's defence team indicated at the end of the trial that he would be launching an appeal.
