HONORARY Mackem Faye Tozer will help decide who will fly the flag for Sunderland at a beauty contest.
The former Steps singer turned theatre star, who lives in Boldon, has been signed up to appear as a judge in Miss Sunderland.
She will join Dragons’ Den star Duncan Bannatyne for the final of the pageant, which is one of two Miss Sunderlands being held in the city this year.
The winner of this contest will qualify for Miss Great Britain, as well as winning a modelling contract with Headline Models Ltd, teeth whitening from Oliver’s Dental Studio, a model portfolio from David Lawson and will be an official ambassador of the Cash for Kids charity.
The budding beauty queens will strut their stuff at an Alice in Wonderland-themed final at The Pullman, in Seaburn, on September 12, in rounds including swimwear through the years and eveningwear.
Guests will be treated to live music from female barbershop quartet Scarlet Street and North East group North Road, who have supported Lawson and played alongside the likes of Little Mix.
Organiser Simon Robertson, said: “It’s a great coup to have Faye be a judge for us.
“She’s a local girl now and she has that star quality.”
Mum-of-one Faye moved to Wearside five years ago after marrying her Sunderland husband Michael Smith.
Earlier this year the actress won rave reviews for her appearance as Lina Lamont in a tour of Singin’ in the Rain, which played to packed houses at the Sunderland Empire.
