A FUND-RAISER is letting his facial hair grow wild for a good cause.
Pennywell man Michael Roper has decided to go without shaving until this summer to try and raise hundreds of pounds for the injured serviceman charity Blesma.
The organisation helps armed forces personnel who have lost limbs, lost the use of their limbs or lost their sight.
It also supports the surviving partners or dependents of deceased personnel.
Michael, a dad-of-four and granddad-of-five who served in the Royal Engineers, said: “My son-in-law works for Blesma and when I saw the work they do I thought it was worth getting involved.
“I’ve had a goatee for a while before, but nothing like this.”
The 63-year-old, who is also a fund-raiser for the Sunderland branch of the British Heart Foundation and used to work at the former Havelock Primary School in Pennywell.
He will finally shed his locks in July and hopes to have raised £500 by then.
