A SUPERHERO tried to come to the aid of Sunderland AFC last night – but even Spider-Man couldn’t help out the Black Cats.

A pitch invader brought Wednesday night’s game to a halt after running onto the Stadium of Light pitch as the Marvel character.

He was soon escorted away by stewards - but not before he pretended to fire his spidey-web at some of the away players, including Martin Dimichelis and Gael Clichy.

His super-human efforts didn’t prevail though as Sunderland were soundly beaten 4-1 by the visitors.

The intruder had clearly put a lot of effort into his invasion and definitely caught people’s attention with him appearing across national websites
