It’s Boxing Day Dip time again.
The Lions Club of Sunderland is now hard at work, organising what will be the 41st annual Boxing Day Dip at Seaburn.

Every year, hundreds of hardy souls brave the icy waters off the beach to raise money for a huge range of good causes.
Thousands more people line the promenade to show their support and cheer the dippers on.
Participants can raise money for any good cause they choose, with the Lions taking a 20 per cent share for organising the event, which it then puts towards their own charitable work across Sunderland for the rest of the year.
“Last year we had 702 dippers, while some 79 charities and organisations were nominated by the dippers,” said Lions Club spokeswoman Anne Fielding.
“The amount raised was £52,402 and the beach collection raised £1,306.
“This really is a very worthwhile event and should be well supported by the people of Sunderland.
“The dippers are all fantastic people and deserve every encouragement.
For health and safety reasons, dippers must be aged 12 years or older.
Anyone wishing to take part in this year’s dip will need to complete a registration form, which can be obtained from the Lions Club’s website www.sunderlandlionsuk.org, or Sunderland Lions Club Facebook page.
Dippers will be sent a copy of the booklet, which contains all instructions for taking part, as well as sponsor forms. On the day, registration of teams will be held at the Seaburn Centre from 9.15am to 10.15am.
This will be followed by the fancy dress judging and then the procession to the sea at 11am.
The closing date for entries is Tuesday, December 15, to allow for booklets to be delivered or collected in time for the event.
