ENGLAND football hero Jack Charlton is getting into the swing of fund-raising with other sporting legends to help local veterans.

The World Cup winner is teaming up with champion boxer Glenn McCrory and Micky Horswill from the SAFC ’73 FA Cup-winning team for a celebrity golf day at Sharpley Country Golf Course in Seaham.

Other celebrities including Paralympic champion Stephen Miller, boxer Billy Hardy, Mike Mcleod, who won the first Great North Run, and former North-East players including Mick Martin, Steve Harper, Jimmy Montgomery and Gordon Armstrong will take part in the challenge tomorrow.

The Celebrity Golf AM/AM day forms part of the Volvo National Golf Challenge and will raise funds for North East War Veterans.

Auction prizes on the day will include four days driving the Aston Martin from the last James Bond movie, an ultimate LandRover experience, a fourball at the Belfry, a fourball at Loch Lomond and signed football memorabilia.
