THE boyfriend of X Factor hopeful Lola Saunders has told of his pride as he watches her on stage.
Jordan Rutter, of East Boldon, has been in the London audience as Lola sings for votes in the live finals.
Lola, 20, also of East Boldon, will be back on stage in Saturday performing a song from films under the theme ‘Saturday Night at the Movies’.
And Jordan, also 20, will be there to cheer her on.
Jordan, who has just completed a media course at Newcastle College, said: “I always told her to do it because I always thought she was good enough.
“I think she always was going to do it though, because singing is what she wants to do. She’s just never really realised how good she is, but hopefully she’s starting to get the message now.
“I actually missed her first audition because I was in Greece. We were supposed to be going on holiday together but she got a call and asked to go for her audition two days into our holiday, so I went alone and she came a couple of days later.
He added: “She was really nervous at first, but she seems to be getting over that a bit now and getting more confident.” The couple met when they were just four-year-old pupils at Cleadon Village CofE Primary School and continued their school careers together at Whitburn CofE Academy. They didn’t become a couple until after they had left.
Jordan, who works part-time at Romano’s Bistro, in Cleadon, added: “I think she’s definitely capable of going all the way but we’re just taking it week-by-week.
“She’s getting good comments from the judges, but even then, you don’t know what’s going to happen.
“Watching her sing on that stage in front of all those people is really emotional and I’m so proud of her.
“The support she’s getting from people at home is amazing and it’s what the North East is really great for.”
The X Factor returns to ITV1 at 8pm on Saturday.
