A TALENTED young photographer has put herself in the frame for a national award.
Demi Gilby, a student at Castle View Enterprise Academy in Sunderland, has had her work chosen as the regional winner in a photographic competition and is through to the finals.
Jackie Smith, the academy’s beyond school leader and manager, said they were thrilled when the Year 11 youngster’s photographs, taken throughout the Hylton Castle school, were chosen among the national finalists.
The competition for students was launched by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) and sponsored by photographic company Ward-Hendry.
Jackie said: “The theme of the competition was ‘one school, many talents’ and was judged in two rounds.
“In round one each student was expected to produce a portfolio of five photographs on the theme and a winner was chosen from each of nine regions in the country.
“Members of the newly-formed Academy Photography Club decided to enter and were delighted when Demi was chosen as the North East regional winner.”
The youngster’s prize was a digital camera and tuition from a professional photographer to help her take more shots for round two of the competition, the national final.
Demi’s photographs of Castle View Enterprise Academy went on display at the national SSAT conference in Birmingham.
