TODDLERS at a nursery are getting an excellent start to life, say education watchdogs.
Buttons Nursery in Washington has been rated outstanding by Ofsted inspectors.
John Pickering, who set up the private nursery 15 years ago, said everyone is delighted.
“We have had a rating of good before, which is great, but to get outstanding is amazing. We are all thrilled to bits.
“Without doubt it is down to the hard work of the staff there under the manager, Michelle Barr.
“One of the key elements of the nursery is the interaction between the staff and parents.
“Parents are kept up to date and are made to feel a part of what goes on in the nursery.”
The inspectors’ report about the Baird Close nursery praised the work of the staff and the activities available to the children.
They said: “This provision is outstanding. Staff’s thorough knowledge of each child’s individual needs ensures that all aspects of children’s welfare and learning are promoted with great success.
“The very knowledgeable staff team has an excellent awareness of safeguarding children and have robust procedures in place to monitor children’s learning and their progress towards the early learning goals. Children enjoy an excellent range of activities and experiences which effectively meets their needs and helps them to make rapid progress in their learning and development.
“The key person system very effectively supports children to form bonds and settle in the calm atmosphere of the nursery.”
