UNION leaders are calling on parents, students, teachers and school leaders from across Wearside to come out in support of teaching assistants, as part of a national celebration day.

The Unison union, which represents the majority of teaching assistants in the city, is campaigning for TAs to be rewarded for their work through a proper career structure and better pay, terms and conditions.

The branch is holding an event today in Cafe Refresh in Sunderland Civic Centre, to which they’ve invited any member in any non-teaching role to have tea or coffee and cake and discuss their experiences.
