Sunderland University is in electric vehicle top 10

WEARSIDE’S university is among those leading the way in electric motoring.

A national survey has shown that the levels of electric vehicle ownership among universities is higher than other organisations, and the University of Sunderland is in the top 10.

Of the 114 universities surveyed, Sunderland came sixth with 27.78 per cent of their vehicles being powered purely by electricity.

From all UK new vehicle registrations in 2013, only 0.11 per cent composed of electric vehicles. However, the university study showed nationally 7.73 per cent of their vehicles are electric.

Sunderland is at the heart of the electric car revolution with the Nissan Leaf built by Wearside workers.
