THE horrific return of a deadly event is on the way to Wearside.

A conference dedicated to blood, gore and things that go bump in the night, is making a return next month, with an event promising to lift the veil on gothic fiction.

The English team at Sunderland University is holding a one-day conference on the popular genre of gothic literature.

Spectral Visions II: The Revenge, takes place on Friday, June 21, at the university’s Sir Tom Cowie Campus.

It will feature experts from around the UK, who will talk about gothic influences, from Shakespeare to Wuthering Heights to Northern ghost stories.

This will be the department’s second free Gothic conference, and will offer prospective students a range of creative learning, lectures and workshops as well as opportunities to meet with speakers, staff and fellow students.
