PUPILS were on song as they took part in a service preparing for Easter.
Children from Hudson Road and Valley Road schools joined the celebrations at St Ignatius Church, in Hendon.
The community festival combined readings and songs to tell the story of Holy Week.
Choirs from the two schools took turns to perform, with Year 4 pupils from Valley Road choosing a selection of hymns, accompanied by the clarinet.
Hudson Road pupils from Years 3 through to 6 performed spring songs, along with the Year 6 clarinet group.
As well as hearing singing from the two primary schools, readings were given by Deputy Mayor of Sunderland Councillor Iain Kay, and Hendon ward councillor Michael Mordey.
The event, called Easter is Coming, was also open to members of the public.
