A NEW term has “lift off” at a Sunderland school as pupils head for outer space.

Pupils and staff at Town End Academy dressed up as spacemen, aliens and science fiction characters for their journey to the final frontier.

The Borodin Avenue school’s motto is The Sky’s the Limit, so it was decided to launch the new school year with a space-themed term.

Teacher Pam Durey said the dress-up day was a fun way to launch the new topic, and the youngsters came up with some brilliant costumes.

She said parents were also invited along to take part in the fun, and everyone wrote down their aims and ambitions for the coming year and how they will reach for the stars.
