PICKY pupils at a Wearside school are making their community a cleaner place.

Pupils from Ryhope Junior School joined staff from Asda to take part in a litter-pick across the recreational playing fields between Black Road and the boxing club.

The team managed to fill 11 sacks with rubbish and make a big impact on the environment.

Dominique Allison, community colleague at the Asda store, said: “We did manage to collect quite a lot of litter. There were about 17 children from all the year groups who joined us and they were brilliant.

“They really enjoyed taking part. As soon as we got on to the field, they were off picking up as much litter as they could and really put their hearts into it, even though the weather wasn’t brilliant.

“It was good to get the pupils involved in improving the area.”
