NURSERY workers will swap play mats for the dance floor tomorrow night.
Staff and parents from Just Learning Day Nursery, Newcastle Road, are holding a fund-raiser at Sunderland bar Revolution in aid of the charity CLIC Sargent.
Just Learning room manager Stacey Steehouder, 27, recommended it should be the nursery’s charity of the year because of the work it did with her younger brother Gary Steehouder, 23, when he was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was 13.
“CLIC Sargent did a lot for him,” said Stacey, who wants to raise more than £800.
“He was ill for over three years, then he had follow-up appointments and extended appointments for years after that.
“It’s only in the last couple of years that he has been put into remission, so it’s a cause close to my heart.”
The event, which has been months in the planning, will start at 7.30pm upstairs, with a cocktail reception for the first 50 people.
“Revolution have been a lot of help in organising it,” added Stacey, who said the nursery has already held a number of fund-raisers for the charity, which included staff and parents bathing in beans.
“They have donated a big prize towards the raffle we will be holding, and been in contact all the time. I’m nervous and excited now.”
Tickets cost £7.50 and can be bought on the door.
