PUPILS got a special visit when an MP dropped in on one of their lessons.

Bridget Phillipson, who represents Houghton and Sunderland South visited success story Farringdon Primary School.

The school, along with Farringdon Sports College, was recently told it will not have a inspection by watchdog Ofsted until summer 2013 at the earliest.

Ms Phillipson was joined by school governor and St Chad’s ward councillor Stuart Porthouse.

The pair met and chatted with headteacher Ann Henderson as well as many of the pupils.

Coun Porthouse said: “It’s amazing to see how a school which Ofsted declared a ‘Notice to Improve School’ in June 2007 to a ‘Good School with outstanding features’ in October 2008 could change in such a short time.

“It is all down to an outstanding headteacher, first-rate teaching staff and a committed team of governors”.
