A SUNDERLAND graduate has landed her dream job working at one of the world’s biggest attractions.
Melissa Banks graduated in Performing Arts from the University of Sunderland in July.
Now, she has started as a cultural representative at Walt Disney World Florida.
The 21-year-old landed the job ahead of thousands of applicants, in a rigorous interview process.
During her interview, Melissa, told the tale of North Shields’ Wooden Dollies, which dates back 200 years and is about statues placed in North Shields town square, that local mariners would chip a piece from for luck before leaving for sea.
Melissa, who is from North Shields, went to Florida last month.
She said: “I was confident and had done all of the research on questions they might ask. When I got the email I couldn’t even speak, I just cried and cried, and when I rang my parents, all I could say was ‘I got into Disney’ then I cried some more.”
The role lasts for one year with an option for a further three months and sees Melissa sharing the North East culture with thousands of tourists who visit Disney World.
