CHILDREN are being taught the importance of looking after their teeth through dental health roadshows on Wearside.
Sessions are being held at special schools in Sunderland and Washington involving the oral health promotion team from South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust.
The roadshows are visiting six schools in the North East in the coming weeks after a £10,000 donation from the Wrigley Tooth Fairy Fund, which is part of the British Dental Health Foundation’s Oral Health Education project.
Parents, carers and staff are being encouraged to take part in fun activities alongside the youngsters during the week-long roadshows.
Joanne Purvis, oral health promotion manager, said: “It is important to address inequalities in dental health for children with special needs who can have particular problems with their teeth, which can lead to tooth decay.”
