STUDENTS were given the opportunity to get their hands on the latest power tools and chainsaws.

Simon Wilkinson, application specialist at chainsaw firm Stihl, gave arboriculture and horticulture students at East Durham College’s Houghall Campus a demonstration of the company’s new products.

Horticulture student Nathan Ayre, 17, said: “The new machines feel great to work with and I can’t wait for when the college takes delivery of some of this great new kit.”

Dave Scott, horticulture lecturer, said: “We were thrilled when Stihl agreed to demonstrate its very latest equipment to our students.

“The college and Stihl have built up a tremendous working relationship over the past five or so years.”
