FOUR student barbers will be representing East Durham College in the final of a prestigious national competition.

Courtney Williams, 18, Sarah Grant, 30, Leanne Anderson, 20 and Andrew Boote, 20, all finished in the top 10 in two categories for the 2015 Student Barber Competition qualifiers.

All the students were recognised for their efforts in the Trends category, while Courtney was also selected in the Styling category.

Alison Scattergood, barbering lecturer at the college, said: “I am very proud to see so many of our students selected in the top ten for this fantastic national competition.

“Featuring in the top ten is already a brilliant achievement and I am really proud of the great work they have produced so far, but it would be great to see them achieve a top three placing when we travel to the final.”

The lucky finalists have travelled to the Barber UK event today at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham to find out where they have finished.

The students worked on their designs at the College’s Peterlee campus salon, and sent off photos of their work to be judged alongside 300 other entries from across the country.
