STEVE Cram met the next generation of sporting stars as he inspired them to aim for the top.

The Olympic silver medallist and world, European and Commonwealth champion now commentates on sport for the BBC, organises the Sunderland City 10k and is University of Sunderland’s chancellor. He met with high-achieving students at East Durham College, in Peterlee, where they asked him about his career and talked about their own hopes and dreams.

Steve also met the college’s board of governors.

The college runs sport development centres in football, boxing, basketball, rugby and dance. It also offers scholarships, with courses including a foundation degree in sport and exercise development, leadership, coaching and skills to help in the upkeep of grounds.
