A GROUNDBREAKING training course by a Wearside football charity will be launched this month.
Charity arm of SAFC, the Foundation of Light will be offering a six-month workforce development course, giving 16 to 24-year-olds the opportunity to receive nationally recognised qualifications, as well as hands-on experience working in a top sporting environment.
An open day was being held at the Stadium of Light today to officially launch the free programme and offer more information for those interested in taking part.
The first course is expected to start in February, with those enrolled undertaking Level 1 Coaching Football and Level 2 Supporting the Delivery of PE and Sport in Schools qualifications at Newcastle College, as well as receiving mentoring and on-the-job training from the Foundation of Light.
All participants are also guaranteed a job interview at the end of the course, with the possibility of securing a coaching position with the foundation.
Gemma Lavery, Foundation of Light’s head of workforce development and franchise, said: “This new course will give young people the chance to turn their passion for sport and coaching into a potential career.”
The new workforce development course will be available free to young people, with participants also receiving funds towards their kit and expenses.
