STUDENTS are taking the message about food safety to the stage.
Food Safety Week runs from today until Friday, with information about the best way to store, prepare and handle food to be passed on to 24 primary schools across County Durham with help from some of their peers later this month.
To follow up the campaign, Goldilocks and the Three Bears is being staged by Durham High School for Girls’ drama group in conjunction with Durham County Council’s food safety team.
An additional performance of the play, which stars 20 youngsters aged 12 to 14, will be held at the girls’ school in July 4, when the Mayor of Durham will attend.
Michael Yeadon, health protection manager with the council, said: “The pantomime explores some of the ‘poorer’ food safety practices that can occur in busy kitchens as well as highlighting the right ways to ensure safe preparation, which should help avoid related illnesses.”
