A RECORD number of students from Sunderland College this year made it to prestigious Russell Group universities.
Eighty students were successful in their applications to the country’s leading institutions, the highest number to date.
The success follows Sunderland College’s recent celebrations of the best set of A-level results in its history. Anne Isherwood, who took over as principal in January, said: “This should really encourage our students to aim high. Students who want to attend greatly respected universities, should now see this is a real possibility.
“Competition for places on courses at these esteemed destinations are just as high as ever, so to help young people who study with us realise their dream is fantastic.
“At the last count, 937 of our leavers went on to universities across Britain this September, which is well over 80 per cent of the young people who applied and, as always, I am very proud of all our students and the team at the college.”
