Pupils sing for children’s charity

PUPILS from three Sunderland schools will sing at a special fund-raising concert for children’s charity Barnardo’s.

The event takes place at the Sage, Gateshead, from 6.30pm on Friday.

Twelve school choirs from the North East will perform specially rehearsed individual pieces then join for two massed choir numbers.

Springwell Village Primary, Farringdon School and Burnside Primary will be among them, sending 96 children to the event.

The 475 children in total, aged from five to 12, have been rehearsing individually for weeks.

“We know from previous experience the young people love to perform at Sage,” said Victoria Veats, Barnardo’s events organiser.

“It’s a long, tiring, but exciting experience, creating a brilliant memory of a huge achievement that they get to keep forever.

“It’s a fun event where children are helping children.”

She added: “We have Hannah Bayman, the weather presenter from local BBC news as our compere for the evening, and we hope to raise £10,000 from the event towards our work with disadvantaged children and young people.

“Our purpose is to help the UK’s most vulnerable children transform their lives.”
