YOUNG hacks sharpened their pencils and got a taste of life in a newsroom as they turned reporters for the day.
Children at St Paul’s CoE School, in Ryhope, pulled out their notebooks to write their own stories for the Echo.
The newshounds were given a helping hand from the paper’s head of content Craig Thompson.
The children got the chance to ask questions after being presented with a series of scenarios, including the discovery of ancient coins under Penshaw Monument and a star at the Sunderland Empire losing her voice.
The Year Five and Six pupils then designed their own Echo front pages, made up the headlines and edited their finished stories.
