PUPILS in Washington are looking forward to class in a new school.

Contractors have handed over the keys to the new Marlborough Primary School building, which will replace the former Usworth Grange Primary School, that is being demolished on the same site.

The school is the first to be delivered as part of the Government’s Priority Schools Building Programme.

The council also lodged successful bids for funding to build primary schools at Shiney Row and Hylton Castle, along with a secondary school at Hetton within the next two years.

Headteacher at Marlborough, Mrs Leigh Ford, said: ”We’ve all been looking forward to getting the keys to our new school, and starting this new chapter in our history.

“It’s been great to watch from the windows of Usworth Grange, and see our new school being built.”
