A PUB has dished up an extra serving of festive cheer.

The Grey Horse, in Penshaw, staged a free carol service with choirs from Barnwell and New Penshaw Primary Schools and All Saints’ Church.

Jacqui Hudson has run the village pub with her partner Jimmy since April.

She said: “The regulars have told us all about the things that used to go on in the village and we just thought it would be nice to see if we could get the community going and do something for Christmas.

“I didn’t expect it to take off as it did.

“I thought it would be really difficult to get people to give up their time but it just snowballed.

“In the end we had between 150 and 200 people here, which was fantastic.

“We are certainly going to do it again next year.”
