OFSTED inspectors praised all aspects of Durham County Council’s Fostering Service and took the unusual step of making no recommendations for improvement.
The service was awarded the highest possible rating of outstanding.
The report said that the service provides young people with outstanding outcomes and that it ensures young people’s experiences of care are very positive, improving their life chances.
Council cabinet members heard on Wednesday that the fostering service places emphasis on a strong commitment to listening to young people and helping them shape the way the service operates, as well as making sure young people are well supported to make the transition into adulthood.
Councillor Claire Vasey said: “This inspection highlighted a service the authority should be proud of, and this glowing report is testament to the hard work of all involved.”
