Physical feats at town’s sports day

YOUNG athletes helped the legacy of the Olympics take another leap with a sports day which pitted schools against each other.

Around 130 students from Ropery Walk, Westlea, St Cuthbert’s and New Seaham Primaries in Seaham took part in an event organised by Seaham Town Council and Groundwork Trust North East at the town park yesterday.

Deputy town clerk Paul Fletcher said: “It’s the second year that it’s been running and the attendance increased from 100 last year to 130 this year.”

Games included penalty shoot-outs and challenges using park’s Helter Skelter slide.
